Few peaks in the Jizera Mountains could hold their own against Paličník in a beauty contest. Come and see for yourself! And keep your eyes peeled, to make sure you don’t miss two little memorials in the Jizera Mountains along the way.
Memorial picture commemorating Kratzer – Josef Kratzer from Bílý Potok lost control of his sleigh on 3 January 1890. The loaded sleigh crushed him to death against the rock below the first bridge in the gorge of the Hájený stream. (Quoted from M. Nevrlý’s book: Kniha o Jizerských horách (Book of the Jizera Mountains))
Paličník – This renovated rock viewpoint, 944 metres high and with perfect 360-degree views, stands on the western edge of Klínový vrch, a short ridge between the valleys of the Hájený stream and the Smědá River in the Jizera Mountains.
Memorial picture commemorating Veronika Lahrová – In 1829, thirteen-year-old Veronika Lahrová died at the site of this little memorial. She was gathering twigs in the Šindelový důl ravine and was crushed by a tree.
Millennium Cross – The Millennium Cross is a stone cross roughly 8 m high, made of 3 granite blocks. It is said to have been built by a local person to commemorate the turn of the millennium and as a celebration of Christian traditions.
